Optimizing Poultry Feed for Maximum Egg Production

Egg production is directly linked to the quality and composition of your poultry feed. Understanding nutritional requirements can dramatically improve your farm's profitability.

Key Nutritional Components

A balanced layer feed should contain:

  • Protein: 16-18% for optimal egg production
  • Calcium: 3.5-4% for strong eggshells
  • Energy: 2,800-2,900 kcal/kg metabolizable energy
  • Vitamins and minerals: Essential for hen health and egg quality

Feeding Schedule

Provide feed ad libitum (free choice) to laying hens. They typically consume 110-120g per day. Ensure fresh water is always available, as hens drink 2-3 times the amount of feed they consume.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Don't switch feeds abruptly, as this can stress birds and reduce production. Gradually transition over 7-10 days. Also, avoid feeding moldy or contaminated feed, which can cause serious health issues.
